Charlie graduated from kindergarten today. It was so sweet. His teachers love the class so much that it just warms my heart and made me cry. And they were so sweet and have me flowers for being an “honorary” room parent (I think because I help cut paper and photocopy for them I love those teachers. I couldn’t have asked for better teaches. Ms. Whitney is so incredible and loving and inspiring. And so of Charlie.
Charlie also had a ballet recital.
Charlie is an awesome kid. I mean all kids are awesome but Charlie is beyond awesome. He’s only gone to a couple ballet classes, starting in April and was totally focused and peaceful during the show. They did some exercises and then did a dance of the fairy doll bases on Coppelia. My heart was overflowing watching him because he was thoughtful about it and because he was so confident. Later in the evening when I asked if he wanted to do more ballet, he said “It’s better when you have more boys” and recounted the story: “A first grade boy saw me and Anton going and he asked Anton where we were going and Anton said ‘ballet’ and he started laughing ‘You are girls! You are girls!’ And then we saw him another day and he forgot us and said to Anton again ‘Where Te you guys going?’ and Anton was about to tell him but I said ‘Let me get this,’ and I told the first grader we wee just having a play date”
So I asked Charlie how this made him feel and he said “sad.”
And then we talked about how that first grader wasn’t nice and didn’t really understand how people can do all sorts of things.
Anyway, how great is Charlie?!
Also got an excellent report card. I’m so proud of him and so happy for him.
After the recital we went out to dinner and I took him to buy celebratory books at Politics and Prose. He paid with a gift card I have him and completes the whole transaction on his own. At the end he said “This is my first receipt. What does a receipt do?”
