Scottie “I’m going to see your lipstips, mommy.”
ALB “No, Scottie, those are just for mommy. I will find you some girl lipsticks.”
Scottie “I’m not going to touch your lipstips, just looking.”
I know how “just looking” turns out-as ruined make up. But I can see how it would be endlessly interesting to her-all those bottles, and lids, and compacts that snap, and colors.
I want to get her make up to play around with for exploration of texture, color and sense of transforming the face/self/identity. Is this crazy? I suppose she wouldn’t think so…

I know it isn’t becoming or good to be too self congratulatory, but having grown up in a household where reciting AE Houseman lines, walking through antique stores, and correctly identifying 15 different types of fish fork were the main sports, I’m really proud of myself for getting four kids 6 and under successfully and happily (most importantly) skiing. And today horseback riding and then skiing.
Of course most of the credit needs to go to our awesome instructor Maury who works with me and the kids but I’m proud I can at least get them out the door, in their gear, and all taking their first runs without holding hands. Now I just need to get Scottie to do it without having to promise lipstick.
Maury said he is super impressed with Charlie’s speed and his quick learning, with Teddy’s ability to control his speed, turn, and confidently know what to do, with Nelly skiing on her own (and screaming for more) at two, and with Scottie being on skis and riding a chair lift.
The other people on the mountain are always so cool and supportive, yelling out encouragements and praise for getting the kids going (it’s got to be something to see some lady out their trying to ski after three toddlers and righting whoever falls while making sure Charlie isn’t ski jumping over them). People are so good. And their encouragement really makes it fun. I’m lucky to have such cools kids and nice people around me.

Finally, we had the whole family
Skiing at the exact same
Moment together. It was awesome. I had to get everyone going together and they rose to the occasion and did it. Nelly skied for four hours straight. Charlie did amazing jumps and even for me to do two mini jumps in the terrain park. And Scottie shared candy with Charlie on the lift. Teddy is almost there.

It’s the thirtieth anniversary of Footloose. Thank goodness dancing isn’t outlawed. To celebrate I had Diana explain to the kids where she was last night (a club) and how everyone dances in clubs.
