I love our bedroom. I feel like I’m in a hotel. I can’t stop looking out the window at night to see the cathedral light up and the twinkly lights of the apartments across town.

When I was little I adored-I mean really adored-these Little Mouse House mice. On Saturdays my father would take me on errands to the post office, dry cleaners, framers, store to get something for that evening’s party, whatever it might be and as a treat sometimes he’d take me to get one of these mice. I had so many and they make me think of my father’so sweetness to me and how I loved going out with him to do errands*.
Colin and Jenny had them too and Colin have me some of not too long ago which is hugely generous as anyone in the Little Mouse House collectors circles would know. Especially important to me because when I was about 18 Duffy the Dog chewed up some of my more important mice-like the one in and apron and chef toque who had a little pan with a fries egg in it, the baby swaddled in a yellow flannel blanket sleeping in a wooden cradle, and the Santa and Mrs Claus.
*One of my most formative shopping experiences outside the mice happened with my father in Minneapolis of all places, when I was 3 or 4. I remember it so well. We went to a department store with our friend Linda Sherin and I got a pair of teal clogs with hot pink flowers on them. I loved them. Whenever I think of Minneapolis I thin of fabulous shoes.
My father also once took me to buy a dress one day when I was about 4. I got a blue checked dress and a brown and white plaid flannel dress with a cow on the pocket. I loved both. I thought they were very elegant. Especially that cow one.
I have so many shopping and clothing memories…
