Today Charlie went to visit his grandfather Hon John at the courthouse. First he went into his chambers to hang out, then he spent some time in the courtroom, and then after asking where the bad guys go, he was taken to the two holding cels outside the courtroom. He didn’t want to leave but as we were going he said “When I get home I want to be a judge–wear a judge coat and a judge hat.”

In chambers he really liked the artifacts, like arrow heads and African gold weights sitting around and the small kitchen. In the jail cels he was visibly unsure and then said he was scared so we left. He asks lots of questions abut bad guys and where they go and what they do and said as we were leaving “I will hit the bad guys. That is a good idea.”
He had the best time in the courtroom where he sat in the chair and kept pressing the white noise button and did a fake trial with my dad. Below is the transcript from the testimony.
Judge Bayly: What is your name?
Charlie Berman: Charlie.
Judge Bayly: What is your last name?
Charlie Berman: Berman.
Judge Bayly: Where do you live?

Charlie Berman: Um…
Judge Bayly: Do you have a brother?

Judge Bayly: What’s his last name?
Charlie Berman: Theodore.
Judge Bayly: Do you go to school?
Charlie Berman: Yeah.
Judge Bayly: Where do you go to school? Nearby? Near a house?
Charlie Berman: Next to all of the buildings.
Judge Bayly: Did you shoot Mr. Jones’ dog last night with your gun?
Charlie Berman: Yes.
Judge Bayly: Guilty as charge. I’m sorry you’ll have to step back.

Charlie asks about once every hour “Mom, will you buy me shin guards?” “Mom will you buy me a baseball watch?” “Mom will you buy me hockey pants?” I always “Yes, one day,” and he happily says “Ok, thanks, mom!” So glad he still happy with just a vague promise of a future purchase.

Teddy really wanted to sit in a regular dining room chair today rather than his high chair and kept pointing to it saying “Boy chair, boy chair!”

At Easter dinner last night Charlie had a really good time singing and playing the piano with his grandfather “John”.

Teddy and Charlie loved Easter. They went to 4 different eggs hunts. Charlie is still not so sure about people in bunny costumes and at one hunt told the bunny “You are not allowed to come near me.”

They were supposed to go to the White House Egg Roll today but because I broke my foot I couldn’t take them. I feel horrible. I thought about making it up to them by letting them eat ots of candy but I think will do something else.

Charlie gave me a plastic dog ring today, then kissed my hand, and said “When I’m a grown up daddy I will marry you.”

This morning Teddy said his first sentence “Mommy drink juice.” This afternoon at a birthday party he said to the birthday boy “Thank you, Jamie.”

Charlie is eager to help out–it is so sweet. Sometimes I will give him a little job–like put this book on that table–just to give him something to do. Then he will say “What next, Mommy?” Tonight before dinner he said “I can set up the table.”

Charlie really wanted to help me at the BabyLove drive this weekend and was very excited to be able to carry some bags on the truck. He knows that what we are doing is collecting things for babies who don’t have things. He told me “I don’t have any soccer cleats so someone should give some to me.” I told him when he is old enough to wear cleats I will get some for him.

Charlie now says “Happy birthday!” He is very cooperative and will say things when you ask. He has become overly interested though in running off down the street if you turn your head for even one second.
