Charlie can now identify instruments in songs. Yesterday we heard a song with a ukulele and he cried “little guitar.” Impressive. Is he a music prodigy? Even though he sometimes says “m and t” at the end of ABCs? He also asks me to sing all the time. Still asks for Boom Boom Pow and often Bob Marley (and out of the blue he will sing to me “Everything little gonna be alright” and smile. He is sooo cute it is killing me.) Except when he tells me to “Stop singing!! I singing!”

Tupelo Teddy

I love listening to Charlie’s musings and observations especially when they come from the back seat of the car. He has been very much into asking me to explain everything (which I happily do; I will never tire of answering their questions or explaining to them).

C: “Mommy whatchoo doing?”
Me: “Just hoping into the lane next to us.”
C: “Why? What is lane? Tell me.”
Me: “Lane is a part of the road. See the road has a couple parts. We are in one lane, and next to us is another lane where other cars go, and on the other side are other lanes where cars are going in the opposite direction”
C: “What couple?”
Me: “Some. Like two or three.”
C: “My birthday coming up.”

The other day I said “One second sweet pea.” and He said “I not baby sweet pea, I big boy sweet pea. Teddy baby sweet pea. When him grow up like me be big boy sweet pea.” He is always very thoughtful about Teddy and what Teddy can do like him when he gets bigger. It’s so sweet. They have also started playing together a lot, or at least side by side very interested in the same box of toys or piles of blocks. It warms my heart.

Jeannie had a baby, Louise! She is adorable and I hope she will marry Teddy.

Teddy loves shaking his head no. Even when he means yes.

Charlie has embraced break dancing. He watched Rock Steady crew videos on You Tube and now cannot stop. He calls it “Doing my tricks.” When the mood strikes, he runs and gets his baseball hat, turns it sideways, and gets down on the ground. Yesterday he actually flipped his feet over his head. I am incredibly impressed with these skilz.

He also got his uncle to out a hat on sideways, which Charlie thinks is a mark of a serious break dancer.

Charlie is being potty trained right now. Today we went to the store to buy big boy underpants (he requested football and soccer underwear so we had togo to 3 different stores). He has been able to and interested in using the potty for about 6 months, but now he doesn’t seem to want to so I have begun encouraging him more by giving him one M&M each time he uses it. As we were driving home this afternoon, he would yell out at each person we passed, “That guy use potty, I give him one M&M! Mommy, look, that lady poop in potty I give her M&M.” So generous. If only those people knew what they could get.

Tonight Charlie told me what every mother wants to hear: “I love you , Mommy.” He also said “You a big giant lady.”
