Day 6 of MJ in France: We really miss M. And I really wish we were in France for Paul and Laurence’s wedding. I’m so sad not to be there…should have gone!!

We almost went to the ER today–Charlie sprayed sunscreen all over his face and in his mouth, telling me “Washing my hair!” but then turned sad when he realized his eyes were stinging and he couldn’t see “It’s dark!” Called Poison Control and they said go to the er if his eyes don’t stop being red after flushing them with water for 15 min (actually they told me to swaddle him and then have another adult flush his eye. Which other adult?)
Also today Charlie read to Huck and was excited to show her a picture of a dog in a book.
Teddy pretended to talk on the phone with a pair of sunglasses and I carry him around the house points to things he wants.
Luckily Bridget came over to distract them.

Day 5 of MJ in France: I don’t think I’ve ben this tired ever. Maybe the day after Charlie was born, but not sure even then.

This morning when we passed McDonald’s at 7am, Charlie asked if he could go in to get a milkshake and fries. I said “No, it’s closed,” and he said “Why cars there?”

Day 4 of MJ in France: I can say with near certainty that I’ve never been so tired. Some is from the act of missing MJ. Some if from taking care of T&C. Having MJ away has made them more clinging if that was possible. T wouldn’t let me put him down so I even had to hold him while I brushed my teeth.

I went to M’s office to water the plants, stock his kitchen with Devil Dogs, and hang a picture and while there noticed that he was using a pot lid for a paperweight and cardboard box lids for a filing system. Big, important business men cannot have their offices like that, as charming as it is, so when he gets back and can watch T&C I will fix that.

Day 3 of MJ in France: We really really miss him. Charlie of course asked where he was alot today and said, “So sad, I miss my Daddy.” Then he added, “Teddy thinking about it. Teddy not so happy.” When MJ called T, C, and H were really siked.

I have missed MJ so much I have been compelled to do nice things for him at home–like I was his sneakers, bought food to stock the fridge at his office, mended his blue shirt that he loves, and organized a room downstairs into a study.
This afternoon Charlie went to a birthday party and got a bag filled with candy from a pinata. When the pinata broke, all the other kids rushed for the candy. Charlie sort of hung back and observed very closely where candy was then systematically went in and got it. He did the same thing the other day at a party with a pinata–that time he had a bouquet of about 12 lollipops. He never pushes or grabs, rather he just watches and then goes into get what he wants. The minute we got to the party, Teddy tried to leap out of my arms to get at the buffet. He is really into food, well party food. Neither one wants to eat actual meals.
On another note, everyone keeps complimenting my gold Minx nails–today even the UPS guys told me he liked them,

Day two of MJ in France: We really miss him. Charlie asked me to “go find Daddy,” three different times. And I know if Teddy could talk he would say he was so sad he didn’t get to spend his first father’s day with his father. I think in the end MJ was right (as usual, I can’t believe I’m saying it) that we should have gone with him.

On two unrelated notes, Charlie told me “A bug is making honey in my eye.” And when he was drinking some juice, exclaimed, “This is wet!”

Today MJ left for a week in France. It was so sad because we are going to miss him more than one can imagine and because we will miss getting to see friends like Mike and Jo and Paul and Laurence. We just thought it would be too much travel for such a short stay for the boys. I fear I have made the wrong choice. Not having their father around has thrown them into a tailspin. Charlie keeps looking for MJ and then refused to nap and screamed for about an hour this afternoon–so much that Elena called from next door to see if everything was ok. So embarrassing. Then when we returned from a birthday party (where he ate about 20 lollipops) he had the biggest meltdown of his career. He was mad because I wouldn’t let him have more candy. He was so hysterical it made Teddy cry and I had to call the neighbors to tell them not to worry. When I finally calmed him down, he was totally fine and happily went off to sleep.

On the up side today he asked “What licorice mean?” and then when I was struggling to get the mattress out of his crib to change the sheet he said “Maybe cause Daddy big strong man. Try that.” Yes, Charlie, I think I will try that next time.

Teddy likes to practice his clapping first thing in the morning.

3 days ago Teddy’s first bottom tooth popped through. Then 2 days ago the 2nd bottom tooth and a first top tooth started peaking out. So exciting! And he has barely complained at all.
