Yesterday morning, right after we got back from jogging and stopping to hear Dikembe Motumbo speak at Georgetown’s graduation, Charlie fell and hit his eye and I had to take him to the emergency room. Luckily he was fine (except for a huge black eye making him look like he got in a bar fight, except that he is 2 so you know he didn’t) and was sort of excited to get to go to the hospital and to get the treats I kept giving him to keep him happy while waiting. Unfortunately my hostessing track record was not fine as the accident happened right as I was getting ready to have a baby shower for Jeannie at our house. I had to run out the door with Charlie, leaving Teddy and imminently arriving guests with Carol who had to order Ledo’s pizza to serve since I couldn’t make the food.

Charlie has been saying “Me no like it” about things he wasn’t into. He now will not stop saying “Me can’t like it.” In addition to talking about what he doesn’t like (dinner, monsters). He has also been talking a lot about what people like. Often he says “Mommy love logurt [sic],” “Teddy love baby food,” “Huck love dogs.” That sort of thing. Yesterday he said “Mommy love hot dogs and beer.” surprising because he has probably never seen me have either (sadly).

Blue Igloo is the most important place to Teddy and Charlie besides our house. They love their teachers, Sabria, Louis and Ezree and the adore their friends. Charlie asks to go to “Bigoowoo” everyday. And when I got him new shoes the other day, he said “Mommy buy same sneakers Louis too.” They love the parties, the freedom to run or crawl around, Teddy loves climbing into the basket that holds the balls (I think it’s his favorite toy), hugging friend, bubbles, singing songs (Charlie now knows alot of the words and sings on his own), snack time, dressing up…

Today little Teddy had surgery to remove his adenoids and put tubes in his ears. Oh the hospital gown. Now he can eat and hear so much better! He is sleepy but otherwise doing so so well. You can barely tell he had surgery today. Everyone at Children’s were amazing–they took such good care of Teddy. The hardest part was seeing the other sick children. I hope we can figure out some way to help the hospital.

Charlie has really begun trying to join in our conversations. For instance, tonight, MJ and I were looking at a picture of a house on a realtor’s postcard and we were talking about how many levels it had, when Charlie added, “Mommy has a basement upstairs.” Or take the other day, when MJ was telling me that they had just poured concrete for the foundation of one of his new building projects, and Charlie jumped it saying, “Concrete–cats eat it.” Despite being totally inaccurate, he adds quite a bit.
