Astrid Lancieaux has come from France to stay with us for a few weeks. Charlie wants her to be his new best friend. Sunday he took her to the Capitol, the Botanic Gardens, and the pool, and last night he took her to a performance of young chamber musicians (Astrid plays the cello) at the Kennedy Center and to her first Mexican restaurant visit. Today he took her to the Phillips Collection, but wasn’t as successful a guide there, what with his screaming.

Yesterday at the pool Charlie really wanted me to keep going under water. But then every time I would come up he wanted to dry off with a towel. Also, Huck says she is trained in CPR.

Charlie is also obsessed with lacrosse, helmets and sticks and went wild watching his father play (and score two goals) at his game last week (in the top pic M is on the far left in the yellow helmet). He’s not going this week because his mother is going to see The Dead Weather play and he has to stay with a babysitter.

Charlie is obsessed with horses. He plays with his toy barn and horses, wants to read a book about them, keeps asking to see horses, and watches horse videos on YouTube.

Charlie misses the vineyard and keeps asking to go to the beach. We tried to distract him by taking him to a team tennis match last night. He really liked it but then got furious that he wasn’t allowed on the court.

Today Charlie went to a tea party where he drank juice out of a tea cup and ate a tiny cupcake and rock candy lollipop. Then he he fed some koi in a pond and went crazy for them.

Charlie loves a parade. OR at least the Fourth of July one in Edgartown.
