This weekend Charlie went to Richmond and saw horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and ducks at Maymont park, horses a Jeannie’s farm, Malvern Hill, a three day old lamb in Colonial Williamsburg, and a cat, 4 dogs, and 2 sheep at Jeannie’s mom’s house. He is now convinced that wherever there is a wood fence, there is a horse or lamb, just as he is convinced that wherever there is a chain link fence there must be a basketball or tennis court. I tried to tell him that behind some chain link fences there are mean dogs, prisons, or bad landscaping, but he doesn’t believe me.
Charlie went to a lacrosse tournament last weekend to see Sidwell play. He became even more obsessed. He brought his own stick. He tried to get on the field. He watched the whole game. He wanted to be in the St. Albans team photo. He tried to get players on the side to let him hold their bigger sticks. He became infatuated with helmets.
Today was the best Mother’s Day ever. Charlie gave me flowers, played catch with me, took me to look at boats on the river, and wanted to hold my hand while he was in the stroller and I walked next to him. He also let me feed him ice cream.
MJ was in London for a week and C missed him so much. He would look all over for him and ask for him over and over. He would also say “Dada?” and make a drawing motion with his arm to indicate that he wanted MJ to come draw with him. So sweet but so heartbreaking. He was consoled slightly by looking at polaroids we took right before MJ left and by making Carol stand in line for a pony ride so he could get a turn. He wanted to get off once he got on. Petting horses right now is more his speed, though when we took him to Rock Creek stables he was desperate to get on a horse.
