Charlie used a little fork for the first time the other day. Also, he really loves eatings bananas like a grown-up by holding it with the peel on and he gets very upset if you try to take it out of the peel. He is like my little baby monkey.

The other day I interviewed Alexander Ovetchkin and thought it would be pretty cool if C played ice hockey one day and promised myself that if he did, I would not embarrass him and stand next to the rink telling him to put on something warmer.

Today Charlie took his first train ride to New York. On the train he eat some cheerrios, drank a bottle , took a little nap, and read one of his favorite books, Andy Warhol’s Colors* 3 times.

* Other long-running favorite books are Dinosaur’s Binket and Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaur.
MJ and I can recite all of the two Dinosaur books–“Dinosaurs happy, and dinosaurs sad. Donosaurs good, and dinosaurs bad…” and so on. MJ always gets the chronology wrong though but it is really cute.

**Also, though they are not book, Charlie is really in love with any magazine and especially like the subscription cards that come inside.

Charlie spent a lot of time at Gran’s house this week fine tuning the answer the question “How big is Charlie?” He also stood up by himself for real for real (longer than 2 secs) the first time and was so pleased he started clapping for himself and then fell over.

Also Charlie has been loving going to his Blue Igloo playgroup. He loves the other kids and the leaders and he especially loves the singing circle time when they sing a song about bubbles and the teacher blows bubbles. Charlie can do the hand movements along with the song when its says to “clap the bubbles” and “shake the bubbles”. He is also totally fearless and crawls right into the middle of the circle with the bigger kids and sits there clapping and smiling. He is the sweetest little guy.
And in addition to learning to clap along with songs, he has learned to crawl thru tunnels, play with a baby doll, play a game of chase with another little boy, go down a slide (with he holding him), crawl up and over a little toy mountain, and sit at a table and have a snack.

Yesterday we walked by the fire department and saw a fire fighter washing an ambulance out front. Charlie loved watching so much that when we walked away he began to cry and we had to turn around and watch some more.

Charlie has now begun to point, but he can’t quite get his finger out yet so he just sticks his fist towards things he wants. He also been really into feeding me bites of anything he is eating. He is also really into feeding Huck bites of everything he is eating, but Huck does not know that she is only supposed to pretend to take the bites.

More mummummma. It makes me so happy.

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Yesterday Charlie said mummuma when he saw me. Rachel heard him say it first I didn’t believe her but them he said it like three other times when he saw me. It melted my heart.  Then today came. Not a word.

This afternoon we went to the Kennedy Center. We saw a performance by Iranian singers. Charlie particularly liked the applause portion of the show. And he likes his new tambourine from the gift shop.

All the rain today made the river so high and so muddy.
